Tweens on Stage: Philip Freneau and the Surrender of the Aurora

On a sunny afternoon in May 1780, Philip Freneau set sail on his privateer ship, the Aurora, headed to the West Indies. Not too long after making it past the southern cape of the Delaware Bay, the British ship, HMS Iris, spots the Aurora and the chase begins! Find out what happens in this battle as we bring this original play to life in honor of Philip Freneau, the Poet of the American Revolution, whose family once called Freneau Woods Park in Aberdeen, New Jersey, their home. This play will have an encore performance on the 4-H stage at the Monmouth County Fair 2026 at East Freehold Park on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 2 p.m. Dress rehearsals for the encore performance will be held at Freneau Woods Park on Monday and Tuesday, 7/20/26 and 7/21/26 from 6-8 p.m. This is an indoor camp with lunch time spent outside weather permitting.
