A Walk with Henry Johnson, Soldier of the American Revolution

A simple farmer living on the Navesink River in Middletown became a witness to some of the most important battles in Revolutionary War history. Remarkably, several letters written by Henry Johnson to his parents describing his life as a soldier survive. We will discuss the places he mentions in his correspondence as we ramble through the meadows and woods of his childhood farm. Along the way we will identify which plant and tree species may have existed in Johnson’s time. While the walk is only one mile in length, it is over hilly and rocky dirt roads. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat and water.
